EMOM = 'every minute on the minute' — perform a prescribed number of reps at the top of each minute. Rest is whatever time remains until the next minute.
Mechanism — Built-in pacing prevents the rep-quality drop of AMRAP. Forces consistent power output across rounds. Total volume is high without grinding.
Use case — Skill-and-conditioning combinations (e.g., 10-minute EMOM of 5 power cleans). Strength endurance, pacing discipline. Good for athletes who push too hard otherwise.
Caveats — Rep count needs to match the trainee — too easy is wasted time, too hard collapses by minute 5. Calibrate.
