Mechanism — Binds GLP-1 receptor to enhance glucose-dependent insulin release, slow gastric emptying, and suppress glucagon. Central appetite effects via hypothalamic GLP-1R. Daily dosing means more flexible titration and faster clearance if side effects emerge.
Use case — Type 2 diabetes and weight loss. Useful when semaglutide tolerability is poor, when finer dose control is needed, or for short-term use cases. Typical max dose 3.0 mg/day for weight.
Caveats — Lower potency than semaglutide or tirzepatide. Daily injections are a higher behavioral cost. GI side effects, gallbladder issues, and rare pancreatitis risk same as the class.
